The state-ranked Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines ran their winning streak on the volleyball court to an impressive 50 matches Tuesday night by sweeping Bertha-Hewitt 25-16, 25-8, 25-14 before an energetic crowd.

The streak started in 2009 in the second round of the Class AA state tournament. It grew tremendously in 2010 as the Wolverines won 33 in a row and claimed the Class AA state title. The team picked up the pieces this season and has won 15 straight matches since opening the season Aug. 30.

Tuesday's win saw Brittney Noon recording 12 kills, Heather Theisen set 25 shots, Caitlin Volkmann collect 18 digs and Emily Miron dominate at the net with 10 kills and seven blocks.

According to Jim Lee, president of the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association, the longest streak in the last 25 years was posted by Shakopee, which won 66 consecutive matches from 2008-2010.
