Post 171 claims two victories

Photo by Brian Hansel David Najjar was the winning pitcher June 9 as the Wadena-Deer Creek American Legion baseball team topped Staples-Motley 10-5 in their season opener.

A 15-run third inning explosion carried the Wadena-Deer Creek Post 171 Legion team to a 19-3 victory over Walker Tuesday in four innings.

Jake Rude slugged a two-run homer for WDC while Matt Larsen clubbed a solo shot for Walker.

Rude drove in three runs and scored a pair for WDC. Jake Krause and Cory Tumberg combined for four hits, four runs and five ribbies.

Larsen went 2-for-2 in the loss.

Jonathan Goeden went the first three and earned credit for the win. Tumberg took over in the fourth.

Kyle Dykhoff's Wadena-Deer Creek Legion squad pounded out 14 hits Thursday as they opened their 2011 season with a 10-5 victory over Staples-Motley.

Cory Tumberg went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs three runs. Jake Krause, David Najjar and Jonathan Goeden call came up with two hits.

Gunner Johnson doubled for Staples-Motley.

Najjar started for WDC and went until the fifth when he gave way to Ryan Redfield. Najjar walked five but fanned six. Redfield issued five free passes but did not allow a run and struck out four.
