Raiders, Eagles slug it out

Tanner Wegscheid went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs as New York Mills rallied to shade Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 16-14 Tuesday in a Park Region Conference slug fest.

The Eagles scored five times in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 12-11 deficit.

The Raiders were guilty of nine errors while the Eagles committed four.

"We did a lot of things well but we played just horrible defense," BHV skipper Steve Riewer said.

Ethan Bakken drove in four runs for the Raiders while Austin Selvey went 2-for-4 in his lead-off position, scored four times and drove in three runs.

The Eagles out-hit the Raiders 17-11. Brandon Kupfer went 4-for-5 while Tristan Huwe went 2-for-4 with two runs and three ribbies and Mason Roberts went 3-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs.

Five Raiders had multi-hit games Thursday in a non-conference victory over Staples-Motley.

The Raiders grabbed an 8-1 lead with a seven-run second inning but Cards stormed back to make it a game with a four-run third and two-run fourth.

Ethan Bakken came on in the sixth and held the Cardinals scoreless.

BHV's Jared Hoemberg, Dustin Motschenbacher and Dallas Ehrmantraut all came up with two hits and two RBIs. Also collecting two hits for BHV were Austin Selvey and Cody Yungbauer.
