Craig, Meyer lead WDC track team at Rainmaker

Rachel Craig captured two firsts and Logan Meyer won his fourth straight shot put title Thursday in the Rainmaker Invitational at Staples.

Craig put the shot 33-9.5 and won the high jump by with a personal best effort of five feet.

Craig took second in the discus with a toss of 91-9 and was runner-up in the 100 hurdles with a 17.46.

Meyer's 46-11 throw won the shot put. He placed third in the discus with a 111-3.50.

Taking individual seconds for the Wolverines were Charley Cantrell, Sarah Craig, Emma Schmitz, Courtney Dumpprope, Autumn Jahnke, Brody Wangsness and Will Eliason. Cantrell was runner-up in the 1,600 and 3,200 events with times of 5:49.98 and 12:44.84. Sarah Craig was second in the 200 dash with a 29.59, Dumpprope ran second in the 100 dash with a personal best time of 13.88, Schmitz challenged for top honors in the 800 with a 2:54.92, Jahnke went 6-0 in the pole vault, Wangsness did a personal best 19.59 in the 110 hurdles and Eliason was the No. 2 finisher in both the 800, with a personal best of 2.26.90 and the 1,600 with a personal best 5.12.22.

Shaye Blessing joined Sarah Craig in giving the Wolverines third-place individual finishes. Blessing went 5-5 in the pole vault and ran a 55.48 in the 300 hurdles while Craig ran a personal best 14.03 in the 100 dash.

Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's Kathryn VanDenheuvel dominated the jumping events with firsts in the triple (28-2) and long (12-8.50) and a runner-up in the high (4-10).

BHV's Dylan Templin won the 400 with a 56.53 time and took second in the 200 with a 25.27.

The WDC girls' 4x100 relay team sprinted to a runner-up finish of 56.46 while the WDC boys' 4x400 ran second with a 4:09.97. The WDC girls posted a third in the 4x200 raced with a 2:01.55 while the WDC boys ran a 1:49.17 in the 4x200.
