Numbers swell for WDC golf

Spring may be late this year but the Wadena-Deer Creek's Kevin Ross has 18 players out for the 2011 boys' golf season.

The numbers ballooned last year when New York Mills joined Wadena-Deer Creek. Seven of the 18 players on this year's WDC club are from Mills.

Leading the Wolverines this year will be four players who saw their share of time on the links last season -- Michael Wing, Tyler Fix, Bryan Silvers and Bryce Pazdernick. There are 10 players vying for the last two starting spots.

Rounding out the team are Tyler Heinzen, Duke Harrison, Shane Perry, Miles Roth, Jacob Goeden, Jordan Kern, Jimmy Nardello, Nick LeTourneau, Creeden Dunrud, Jacob Perala, Cole Koenicke, Jess Perala and Matthew Quincer.

The Wolverines were third in the Mid-Minnesota Conference last spring. With the finish his team had last year and their returning talent, Ross would like to see at least four of his golfers advance to the Section 8AA meet.

Detroit Lakes has a strong team returning and is a favorite for the Section 8AA team title.
