Eagles make it 11 in a row against Verndale

The streaking New York Mills Eagles reeled off their 11th straight victory Tuesday night in handing the Verndale Pirates a 70-60 Park Region Conference loss.

The Eagles had to wear the Pirates down in the second half. The two clubs went into the half tied at 35-all.

Adam Snelgrove had 21 points for the Eagles. Isaiah Bauck and Tristan Huwe both added 14.

Dallas Ehrmantraut and Zack Meidinger paced the Pirates with 17 points apiece.

The Pirates won their second straight cliffhanger in three nights Thursday when they edged the Hornets in a Park Region Conference tilt at Henning.

The Pirates took a 50-49 lead on a Zack Meidinger field goal with less than a minute to play in regulation but Henning's Adam Smith tied the game with a clutch free throw with only 16 seconds left.

The Pirates were able to put up only one more shot in regulation but failed to connect.

Meidinger hit a turn around jumper in the overtime with less than a minute to go to put Verndale up by two. The Hornets tried a long three at the buzzer and the shot rimmed the hoop before popping back out.

Dallas Ehrmantraut led the Pirates in scoring with 18 points while Meidinger canned 17. Ehrmantraut dished out six assists while Meidinger grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and five steals.

Henning's Jacob Smith, Daniel Koch and Zach Torgerson tacked up 13, 12 and 11 points respectively.
