Bertha-Hewitt ends Verndale's volleyball season with 3-1 win

The top-seeded Bertha-Hewitt Bears ended the season for Verndale Oct. 29 in West Sub-Section 5A volleyball action with a 3-1 victory over the Pirates.

The Pirates won the opener 25-21 but the Bears came back to win 25-15, 25-18 and 25-8.

Ashley Richter and Teresa Moenkedick combined for 22 kills in the loss while Kaitlyn Richter and Elizabeth Johnson came up with 23 assists.

Moenkedick led the Pirates defensively with 12 digs.

The Pirates closed out their season with a 9-17-1 record.

Teresa Moenkedick had 15 kills and Ashley Richter added 10 as the Pirates rallied from an opening match loss to oust Menahga 3-1 in the Northwest Sub-Section 5A Playoffs.

Richter also led the Pirates with six ace serves.

Elizabeth Johnson had a big night setting the ball with 26 assists. Kaitlyn Richter added 12 assists.
