Wolverines sweep Yellowjackets for ninth straight

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines continued to skip past the competition Tuesday night defeating rival Perham 3-0 for their ninth straight victory in 2010.

Coming off their first victory in the Sauk Rapids Invitational, the state-ranked Wolverines whipped the Yellowjackets 25-18, 25-14, 25-8.

Rachel Craig dominated the middle with 14 blocks while Emily Miron racked up nine and Rachael Carlisle added eight. Miron also had a good night on offensive with nine kills.

Veteran setter Courtney Volkmann dished out 27 set assists to go along with nine kills, eight digs, four aces serves and two blocks.

Avery Jackson led the back row with 10 digs.

Wolverines capture Sauk Rapids title with 4-0 sweep

The Wolverines racked up two-game victories over Rogers, Sauk Rapids, Elk River and St. Cloud Cathedral Saturday to win the 16-team Sauk Rapids Tournament.

WDC triumphed 25-23, 25-17 in the tournament opener with Rogers. The Wolverines then breezed past host Sauk Rapids 25-13, 25-17 to set up a meeting with state-ranked Elk River. Sue Volkmann credited her team with nearly flawless play as they 25-17, 25-15 to reach the finals against Cathedral. Brittney Noon had eight kills, Courtney Volkmann had 22 assists and Rachel Craig had eight blocks as the Wolverines topped the Crusaders 25-17, 25-14.

Volkmann recorded 91 set assists in the four games while Noon had 33 kills, Craig had 32 blocks and Theisen had 42 digs.

Pequot Lakes 12-11-10

Hope Theisen, Avery Jackson and Brittney Noon combined for 35 digs as the Wolverines held Pequot Lakes to 33 points in a 3-0 sweep.

Brittney Noon and Kelsi Crawford both had nine kills while Emily Miron recorded seven to go along with a team-high nine blocks. Courtney Volkmann contributed 29 set assists and seven ace serves.
