Trojans eliminate Verndale nine

Clay Cottrell had enough arm for one victory but not enough for two as the Verndale Pirates went down in the Sub-Section 6A baseball tournament.

The Pirates brushed off Lake Park-Audubon 7-2 Tuesday before falling to Sebeka 10-0 in Sub-Section 6A baseball action.

Cottrell and the Pirates surrendered two runs in the first inning in their game with the Raiders but the senior right-hander was untouchable the rest of the way and gave up just three hits in gaining the victory.

Cody Yungbauer went 2-for-4 in the victory with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Isaac Schmitz went 2-for-3.

Four errors and the two-hit pitcher of Alex Brockpahler carried No. 1 Sebeka to an easy victory in Tuesday's second game.

"Against a team like Sebeka, and with Brockpahler pitching, you can't give them any extra outs," Parker said.

Mike Hejhal and Dustin Motschenbacher came up with hits for Verndale.

The Pirates closed out the season with a 6-13 record.
