Cantrell, Hoffman are all-conference

Wadena-Deer Creek's Dane Hoffman and Charley Cantrell racked up all-conference honors Tuesday in the Mid-State Conference track and field meet at Park Rapids.

Hoffman put the shot 45-11 as the Wolverines took sixth in the boys' meet. The senior standout also took second in the discus with a toss of 136-4.

Cantrell continued her brilliant sophomore season by winning the 1,600 with a 5:30.10.

Rachel Craig placed in three events for WDC. Craig earned second in the shot put with a 33-4 effort. She ran the 100 hurdles in 17 seconds flat for third place honors. Craig tied Crosby-Ironton's Sierra Miller for fourth in the high jump by clearing 4-10.

Pequot Lakes captured top honors in the boys' meet with 185 points while Detroit Lakes claimed first in the girls' meet with 205.5 points. The WDC boys took sixth with 21 points while the WDC girls took fourth with 53.

Hoffman, Schmidt shine

in Daggett Invitational

Wadena-Deer Creek's Dane Hoffman and Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's Amos Schmidt each won two events Thursday in the Daggett Invitational at Frazee.

Hoffman took top honors in the discus and shot put events with throws of 142-3 and 44-5.

Schmidt dominated the hurdles with winning times of 16.44 in the 110 and 41.61 in the 300.

Will Eliason tacked up his best finish of the season in the 1,600 where he ran a third place time of 5:17.84 for the Wolverines.

BHV's 4x100 relay team ran a third place time of 47.90.

Otter Tail Central won the meet with 121. Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale and Wadena-Deer Creek placed sixth and seventh respectively with 29 and 26 points.

WDC's Hannah Toedter turned the 800 in a winning time of 2:29.49.

Emma Schmitz earned a runner-up time in the 3,200 with a 12:52.

Rachel Craig finished third in three events for the Wolverines. Craig ran the 100 hurdles in 18.17, cleared 4-6 in the high jump and went 32-3 in the shot put.

OTC took first in the girls' competition with 107 points. Wadena-Deer Creek was sixth with 49 points. BHV was 11th in the 12-team event with nine points.
