Schmidt claims 300; Toedter, Cantrell take runner-up honors

Amos Schmidt won the 300 hurdles and Wadena-Deer Creek's Hannah Toedter and Charley Cantrell captured runner-up honors Tuesday at the Section 6A True Team in Glyndon.

Schmidt, who represented Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale in the state last year in both the 110 and 300 hurdles, ran a winning 41.99 time in the 300. The BHV senior also took fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.36.

Toedter established herself as a solid threat in the 3,200 run in the upcoming Section 6A meet at Moorhead State June 3 by placing second in the true team meet with a 12.15.48.

Cantrell continued her impressive season in the 1,600 with a second place time of 5:36.25. The Wadena-Deer Creek sophomore was a close fifth in the 800 with a 2:35.19. DGF's Katie Highness was second in the 800 with a 2:34.75.

WDC's Isaiah Toedter flashed his talent in the shot put by placing fourth with a toss of 44-11. Logan Meyer was eighth in the shot for WDC with a 40-11 effort.

WDC's talented Rachel Craig placed fifth in the shot and sixth in the 100 hurdles. Craig put the shot 92-3.5 and ran the hurdles in 17.98.

BHV's Hannah Barrett finished fourth in the 300 hurdles with a 51.52 and ninth in the 100 hurdles with an 18.87.

Neil Janson gave the Wolverines a seventh-place finish in the 800 with a 2:16.98 and placed eighth in the 1,600 with a 5:02.40.

WDC senior Dane Hoffman had a rough day placing 11th in the discus with a 107-1.

The Raiders turned a fourth-place time of 48.82 in the 4x100 relay race. The BHV girls were seventh in the 4x100 relay with a 57.47.

Hawley-Ulen-Hitterdal amassed 934.5 points to edge Breckenridge/Campbell-Tintah for top honors in the boys' meet. BHV was 11th with a 395.50 and WDC finished 16th in the 17-team field with a 305.

Park Rapids won the girls' true team title with 905 points. WDC took 10th with 512.50 and BHV was 11th with 450.50.

WDC girls tie for third at Hawley

Rachel Craig placed in the four individual events Tuesday as the Wadena-Deer Creek girls' track and field team tied for third in the Hawley Booster Invitational.

Craig took second in the high jump with a 4-8 effort and the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.51. The senior standout also took third in the shot put with a throw of 25-2.5 and fourth in the discus with a toss of 92-7.

The Wolverines also got a first from their 4x800 relay team of Shaye Blessing, Emma Schmitz, Charley Cantrell and Hannah Toedter. The WDC team ran a winning 10:34.55 in the event. The Wolverines placed second in the 4x200 relay as the team of Craig, Cantrell, Toedter and Lindsey Eliason ran a combined time of 1:57.47. Patty Berg's 4x400 relay team of Blessing, Schmitz, Cantrell and Toedter finished fourth with a time of 4:35.96.

Eliason contributed a third-place finish in the 100 dash by running a 13.71. Autumn Jahnke went 6-6 to gain a sixth in the pole vault.

Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's Hannah Barrett ran a winning 50.5 time in the 300 hurdles. The Raiders also got a winning time of 55.24 from their 4x100 relay team.

The Wolverines tied Frazee for third with 57 points. Perham took top honors with 125.5 and Hawley/Ulen-Hitterdal was second with 84. The Raiders were 10th with 25 points.

Amos Schmidt paced the Raiders in the boys' meet with a winning 41.34 time in the 300 hurdles.

The Raiders got a runner-up finish in the 4x200 with a time of 1:39.01 and a third from their 4x100 team with a 47.38.

Dane Hoffman paced the Wolverines with a 124-foot toss in the discus. Logan Meyer gave the Wolverines a third in the shot put with a 42-0.75.

WDC's Jordan Jacobson came up with a 33-5.5 in the triple jump to gain fourth place honors.

BHV's Joshua Race picked up fourth place in the high jump by clearing 5-4.

Neil Janson was a top six finisher in both the 800 and 1,600 races for WDC. Janson ran a 2:13.21 for fifth in the 800 and came back with a 5:01.93 in the 1,600.

The Raiders got a fifth from their 4x800 team which ran a 9:36.69.

Daniel Harren turned in a time of 11:49.73 for the Raiders in the 3,200 run.

Jacob Snyder collected sixth in the 400 with a 1:00.51.

Perham racked up 151 points to win the boys' title. Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale placed sixth with 35 points. Wadena-Deer Creek was seventh with 26.
