Kyle Dykhoff's Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines used some good power-hitting Tuesday to whip Park Rapids 8-5 and gain a split in their Mid-State twinbill.

Ryan Nelson doubled and homered and scored three times. Cody Redfield doubled, homered and drove in four runs. David Najjar and Tyler Wohlwend each came up with two hits. Wohlwend also drove in a pair of runs.

Cory Odland went 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run for Park Rapids.

Derrick Rude out-pitched Kevin McMorrow for the mound win.

Odland homered and drove in three runs to back up three-hit pitching by Tucker Coburn as the Panthers won the nightcap 11-1.

Sam Coborn and Dan Ricke collected three hits and two RBIs apiece for the Panthers.

Doubles by Tyler Wohlwend and Colter Pettit highlighted WDC's hitting attack.

"We came out flat in the second game of the doubleheader," WDC head coach Kyle Dykhoff said. "Their starting pitcher had good stuff and we couldn't string together any hits."

The Wolverines committed only one error in the opener but were guilty of four in the second game.

Redfield, who departed after recording just four outs, was hung with the loss. Najjar threw 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Kevin Tumberg fired a four-hitter and Ryan Nelson hit a three-run homer as the Wolverines pounded the Eagles.

Nelson went 4-for-5 at the plate and scored three times. Tumberg helped his own cause by hitting a two-run shot, driving in four runs and scoring one. Jake Rude collected a double and one RBI.

Tumberg, who opened the season by striking out 13 batters in a 2-1 win April 8 over Otter Tail Central, added 11 more strikeouts to his season total. The senior right-hander walked two but did not give up more than one hit to any Mills batter.

"It was another solid outing from Kevin Tumberg," WDC head coach Kyle Dykhoff said. "We put together a complete game offensively and defensively. We got a big lift from the bottom of our lineup with Cory Tumberg and Jonathan Goeden having quality at-bats."

Mason Roberts and Tanner Wegscheid made most of the noise at the plate for the Eagles as they each reached base on a hit and a walk.
