OTC sweeps Verndale softball team

Verndale catcher Jamie Kern tagged Otter Tail Central baserunner Carley Nelson out at the plate Tuesday in the first inning of Game 2.

Carmen Malmstrom fired a five-hitter and Carley Nelson pitched a two-hitter as the unbeaten Otter Tail Central Bulldogs swept Verndale 5-0 and 9-0 Tuesday in a Park Region Conference doubleheader.

Jenny Swenson got the nod to pitch Game 1 for the Pirates and took the loss. Swenson gave up seven hits but did not walk a batter and struck out three. Malmstrom walked two and fanned eight.

Brittany Kern and Heather Hejhal collected a pair of hits for the Pirates. Gabby Brendefur went 3-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

Nelson in complete control in Game 2 as she allowed only two hits and one walk while fanning 12. Teresa Moenkedick started for the Pirates but gave way to Swenson after two frames.

Nelson and Jacquie Haarstad both had two hits and two RBIs in the victory. Kern and Lizzy Yungbauer collected hits for Verndale.
