Verndale, Sebeka split twinbill

The Verndale Pirates shook off a dominating performance by Sebeka's Alex Brockpahler in Game 1 Tuesday to claim the nightcap 6-3 for their first victory of the 2010 season.

Brockpahler surrendered only three hits as Sebeka claimed the opener 7-0. The Sebeka lefty walked thee while striking out 10.

The Pirates helped the Trojans by committing five errors.

Clay Cottrell took the mound for Verndale in Game 2 and notched the victory as the Pirates triumphed 6-4.

Dallas Ehrmantraut collected a pair of hits for Verndale while Cottrell reached twice on a base hit and a walk. The Trojans were guilty of four errors after committing only one miscue in the first game.

Cody Pulju singled, doubled and scored a run for Sebeka. Paul Funk went 2-for-4.

Levi Allen drove in three runs and collected three hits and the Tigers erupted for 11 runs in the first three frames to ruin Verndale's home opener at Anderson Park.

Nathan Holm and Russell Burgoyne both came up with two hits in the victory.

Mike Hejhal scored Verndale's only run and joined Nate Bart and Dustin Motschenbacher in collecting hits.
