Seven errors sink WDC softball team

Craig Klawitter's Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines were guilty of seven errors in their season opener Tuesday as they fell to Breckenridge 12-11.

The winning Cowgirls had to give a big assist to the wind as WDC hurler Steph Hahn was touched for only one earned run. Hahn did not allow a walk while fanning five.

The Wolverines out-slugged the Cowgirls 16-14 but Breck was able to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to break an 11-all tie. With one out, Mackinzie Wilson doubled and cleanup hitter Jordan Reiff followed with a ground ball single to left which was misplayed allowing Wilson to score

Megan Popp celebrated her birthday with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate that included two runs, two RBIs and a triple. Leah Dykhoff and Amanda Perkins also collected three hits in the game. Both players scored twice and Perkins drove in a run.

Baylee Wilson gained the pitching victory.
