Lakers handle Wolverines on the courts

Wadena-Deer Creek's Austin Korkowski nails a shot in Tuesday's singles match against Detroit Lakes' Jesse Myer.

The Detroit Lakes Lakers shut out Wadena-Deer Creek 7-0 Tuesday in a spring gale on the WDC courts.

Peter Tranvik's Wolverines went down in straight sets in their season opener but there was no head-hanging after the meet.

"They were satisfied with their play, they took a lot of games to deuce," Tranvik said.

The Wolverines have been working on ground strokes since the beginning of practice. Tranvik, who coached Duluth Denfeld for 11 seasons, is a solid believer in the exercise.

"I've told them that if they do that well they'll be in games no matter what," Tranvik said.
