Blue Devils to face DL in Section 6A play

Mickey Moran came up with a hat trick and the St. Cloud Icebreakers held Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek to just seven shots Tuesday in an 8-0 victory at the MAC in St. Cloud.

Blue Devils starting goalie Sam Gorka stopped 16 of St. Cloud's 17 shots in the first period. The Class 2A Icebreakers dominated Period 2 with a 22-1 shots on goal advantage. The hometown team out-shot the Blue Devils 21-3 in the final period.

Jenna Traut and Sam Bowman combined for seven saves in the shutout. Gorka kicked out 48 shots before she was spelled by Sarah Holm, who stopped four shots.

The Blue Devils ended their regular season with an 8-12 overall record and a 1-5 mark against Section 6A teams. Jim Conrad will lead his fifth-seeded Blue Devils against fourth-seeded Detroit Lakes at 7 p.m. Saturday in Section 6A tournament play at Detroit Lakes. The other first round matchup will see No. 3 Fergus Falls hosting No. 6 Pequot Lakes. No. 1 Alexandria will host the LPGE/WDC-Detroit Lakes winner Tuesday at 7 p.m. No. 2 Morris/Benson will host Fergus Falls or Pequot Lakes. The Section 6A finals are set for Thursday at the Willmar Civic Center beginning at 7 p.m.

Leah Jensen came up with a hat trick Saturday afternoon as the eighth-ranked Green Wave blitzed the Blue Devils at the Wadena Community Center.

Tamara Twite stopped 15 shots to gain the shutout victory.

Jaclyn Scanlan had a pair of goals for the Green Wave who improved to 15-9-1.

Sam Gorka stopped 36 shots in the loss.

Leah Dykhoff drove home the winning goal at the 7:21 mark in overtime Thursday as the Blue Devils nipped the Patriots.

Erika Monson had tied the game at 2-all with just 3:15 left in regulation time.

Kylee Damm and Sam Holweger scored the first two goals of the game. Damm took a feed from Sam Killian at the 8:41 mark of the first period. Holweger made it 2-0 with a power play game at 14:28. Dykhoff and Brooke Umland were credited with assists.

Alex Palm made it a 2-1 game when she found the net for Pequot at the 7:21 mark. Monson earned an assist on the goal.

Holm stopped 21 shots in gaining the win. Brooke Serfling blocked 22 shots in the loss.

"The girls had a good, hard-fought game," Blue Devils coach Jim Conrad said. "They played well as a team and won a lot of the battles for the puck."
