Blue Devils split a pair on the ice
Abby Taffe was just too hot to handle Tuesday as the Aberdeen (S.D.) skater piled up four goals in leading her Cougars past Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek 6-5 in the second round of the Schwann's Cup Tournament.
The Green Division semifinal game was highlighted by a wild second period which saw the two clubs combined for six of the game's 11 goals.
Taffe scored the final Aberdeen goal in the second period and then came up with the third period's first goal to give the Cougars a 6-4 edge.
Katelyn Peters was an offensive force for the Blue Devils with her first hat trick of the season. Leah Dykhoff and Cassie Behl both picked up a goal and an assist.
The Blue Devils grabbed a 4-3 lead 12:33 into the second period but the Cougars iced the next three.
"Each team would control play for awhile -- they'd do it to us and we'd turn around and do it to them," LPGE/WDC head coach Jim Conrad said.
The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 4-5 and sent them into a game with Onalaska, Wis. Wednesday evening.
The Blue Devils had goalie Sarah Holm with them on the bench Tuesday but the eighth-grader will be out for at least 10 days with a moderate to severe concussion.

Kaitlyn Peters scored the tying goal and Cassie Behl drove home the game-winner in the third period Monday as the Blue Devils defeated Marshall in the Green Division's opening round.
The Tigers sprang out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on an unassisted goal by Heidi Schroepfer.
WDC's Sarah Holm suffered a head injury in the first period and the eighth-grader had to be pulled from the net and taken to a hospital for examination. Sam Gorka, who has seen very little time in the net this year, took over and notched the win.
"They were in control I thought for most of the game," Blue Devils head coach Jim Conrad said in praising his skaters, who evened their season record at 4-4.
