Sebeka tops Verndale volleyers in 5A

The fourth-seeded Verndale Pirates ran out of season last Friday as they fell to top-ranked Sebeka 3-0 in the second round of Sub-Section 5A volleyball play.

The Trojans ended Verndale's season with victories of 25-14, 25-10 and 25-16.

Trista Finck led the Pirates with six kills while Crystal Haskin had five assists and Jamie Kern contributed three blocks.

Shelley Glenz saw her club end the year with a 13-17 mark.

"We had a lot of close games at the beginning of the season and we had a tough conference," Glenz said. "We had some tough games that we hung right with them. I don't think our record showed how well we played."

The Pirates are losing six seniors to graduation but Glenz expects to retool and come back with a good squad.

"I saw a lot of growth, I saw smarter play," Glenz said.

Glenz added that the Pirates will continue to make consistency a priority on the court and expects her players to use the weight room.
