Rebels run over WDC

The state-ranked Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels put 34 points on the board in the second quarter last Friday in blitzing Wadena-Deer Creek 48-6.

"We played well for a quarter but then we just got out-physicaled," WDC head coach Tom VanErp said.

Zack Askelson broke off touchdown runs of 43, 55 and 10 yards en route to a 124-yard rushing night. Askelson carried the ball only nine times and finished the game with a whopping 13.7 rushing average.

Bennet Mercil and Jared Roelofs backed up Askelson with 74 and 65 yards respectively. Both backs hit paydirt once.

The Wolverines were held scoreless until the fourth quarter when Josh Sherman converted on a 20-yard sprint.

WDC rushing leader Aaron Kern carried the ball nine times for 46 yards. WDC quarterback Kevin Tumberg, who had thrown five touchdown passes in the first three games of the season, was just two of six passing for 17 yards.

Kern Isaiah Toedter and Taylor Bienusa tied for solo tackle honors with six apiece. Toedter led the Wolverines with six assists. Dane Hoffman came up with five stops and three assists.

Following their Homecoming game with Staples-Motley, the Wolverines will travel to Crookston Oct. 9 for a 7 p.m. game with the Pirates.
