Toedter, WDC girls capture Northland title

Hannah Toedter placed second Tuesday in pacing the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines to a victory in the nine-team Northland Invitational.

Toedter ran a 16:43 as the Wolverines edged Pequot Lakes 36-39 for top honors in the girls' race.

Five WDC harriers recorded personal bests in the meet. Emma Schmitz ran a 17:16 for fifth in the girls' race while Mary McGrane ran a 17:32 for eighth. Over on the boys side, Neil Hanson claimed fifth with a personal best time of 17:53. Shane Motschenbacher took 11th with his personal best of 18:48. Zach Bernu crossed the finish line 15th with a personal best time of 19:16.

Lauren Girard was 11th in the girls' race with a 17:50.

Joe Pate and Forrest McQuiston placed 41st and 43rd in the boys' race with times of 21:19 and 21:44.

Wolverines run 44th, 45th in colossal Roy Griak Invite

Toedter placed 76th in the Women's Maroon Race Saturday in the colossal Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota golf course.

The 2008 Class A state entry ran a 22:05 to lead the Wadena-Deer Creek girls to a 44th place team finish in the 49-team event with a score of 1,162. Shoreview took top honors with 205 team points. Pacing the field was Champlin Park freshman Cassidy Soli who ran the 5-kilometer course in 19:17.

McGrane ran 210th with a time of 23:52 while Girard finished 228th with a 24:10. Kelsey Browne and Bailee Schissel finished 322nd and 326th respectively with times of 28:20 and 29:51.

Janson finished 174th in the boys' 5K with a time of 19:32. The Wolverines placed 45th with a 1,346 score. Bernu earned 269th place with a 21:06, Jacob Snyder, Pate and McQuiston finished 300th, 301st and 302nd with times of 22:28, 22:36 and 22:38.

Top individual honors went to Cedar Grove Belgium senior Josh Mulloy with a 16:29. Anoka came up with top team honors in the 45-team meet with 206 points.
