Wolverines spike Perham in three

Sue Volkmann's Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines followed up Saturday's runner-up finish in the 16-team Sauk Rapids Invitational with a 3-0 victory over section foe Perham Tuesday night in the WDC gym.

The 25-7, 25-12, 25-19 sweep was the club's ninth in 10 contests this season. A 2-0 loss to Annandale in the Sauk Rapids Invitational finals is the only blemish on WDC's record this season.

The Wolverines split with Perham during the regular season last year but defeated the Yellowjackets in Section 6AA tournament action en route to their first state trip since 1992.

Courtney Volkmann led the Wolverines with 10 kills, 19 assists, four blocks, four digs and a 21-for-22 serving night that included six aces.

Hope Theisen led the Wolverines with eight digs while Kelly DeFoe had 11 blocks.

"We played a very good all-around game," WDC head coach Sue Volkmann said. "Our defense passed the ball well and Courtney does a good job of using all our hitters. Perham is always a good game and we were ready to play."
