Mickelson's walk-off lifts Sebeka over Post 171

Brandon Mickelson's walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh lifted Sebeka to a 5-4 victory Monday night over Wadena-Deer Creek Post 171.

Justin Kinnunen blanked WDC for six innings before Post 171 exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game 4-4.

Josh Sweere, Matt Hagen, Cody Redfield and Ryan Nelson collected WDC's four hits.

Joey Osborn clubbed a two-run homer for Sebeka. Osborn and Mickelson combined for four of Sebeka's seven hits.

Hagen struck out seven and allowed only one walk in taking the loss.

"Both starting pitchers threw very well," WDC head coach Kyle Dykhoff said. "One big hit or defensive play could have changed the outcome of the game."

Redfield went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBIs Saturday as Post 171 toppled Minnetonka 12-6.

"He hit the ball well," Dykhoff said. "He is doing a better job of keeping his front half in instead of pulling out on the ball."

Post 171 jumped on top early scoring twice in the first and four times in the second. Redfield kept Minnetonka at bay for the first three innings but then surrendered six runs, four of which were earned, to let Minnetonka tie the game in the top of the fifth.

A six-run fifth inning by Post 171 put Minnetonka away.

Hagen was 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs for WDC. Gannon George went 2-for-2, walked twice and drove in two runs.

"They've always hit the ball well, they are playing good defense and they are getting that third out," Dykhoff said in praising his Legion squad.

Redfield was credited with the victory with relief help from Nick Goeden in the sixth. Ryan Redfield drew praise from Dykhoff for his performance behind the plate.

Post 171 is slated to host Walker July 1 in a re-scheduled game.
