Shockers go 1-2 at Bemidji

The Wadena-Deer Creek Shockers followed up a 5-1 victory over Roseau with two tough losses Saturday and Sunday in the Rosco Invitational at Bemidji State.

Jayme George had a no-hitter going through four innings against Roseau. George combined with veteran battery mate Jamie Nordlund to produce a three-hitter against the Royals.

"The two vets on the team were on the same page," WDC skipper Randy Jahnke said. "It's good to see they still have the same stuff as 10 years ago. It gives something for the younger players to look up to."

George, Jordan Wohlwend and Derek Neu all collected two hits in the game.

Paul Fenner silenced the WDC bats and out-pitched Jordan Wohlwend as the Bemidji Mudcats edged the Shockers 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

Fenner only recorded one strikeout in the game but held the patched up Shockers to just four hits in a complete game effort.

Wohlwend gave up solo runs in the first and second innings and scattered seven Bemidji hits.

Dan Nolan came up with three hits for the Mudcats. Wohlwend had two of WDC's four hits.

"Jordan pitched great but he had no run support," Jahnke said.

Justin Huether scored the lone run Sunday as the Bemidji Blue Ox topped the Shockers 1-0.

Cody Gross surrendered just five hits in posting the mound win. Travis George allowed only four hits in the loss.

The Shockers will travel to New York Mills Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday. The Shockers are on the road Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. game with Detroit Lakes. The Shockers host the Dent Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Sunday.
