Wadena-Deer Creek's Brigetta Berg, Emily Wood and Hannah Toedter and Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's Josh Ganz and Amos Schmidt claimed firsts Thursday in the Sub-Section 3-6A meet at Sebeka.

The Sebeka event was a jumping off point for today's (Thursday) Section 6A meet at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Thirteen WDC and 11 Bertha-Hewitt Verndale athletes qualified for the section meet.

Berg was a double winner in the field events taking top honors in the discus with a 110-9.25 and the pole vault with a 9-3.

Wood set the winning pace in the 1,600 with a 5:37.95. Toedter, a qualifier for the state cross country meet last fall, ran a winning 11:58.44 in the 3,200 run.

Brittney Noon was checked twice by Staples-Motley's Ashley Lisson in her bid for a sprint title but came up with two runner-up finishes. Noon ran the 100 in 12.52 and posted a 26.70 in the 200.

Rachel Craig was a top five finisher in three individual events. Craig took second in the shot with a 33-2, finished fourth in the discus with an 84-8 and placed fifth in the high jump with a 4-7.

Wood gave the Wolverines a fourth in the 800 with a 2:34.47. BHV's Rose Shaw was fourth in the 200 with a 27.40.

Lindsey Eliason finished fifth in the 100 dash with a 13.13. Also finishing fifth were WDC's Kelsi Crawford in the discus with a 79-03.5 and Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale's Lydia Carpenter, who put the shot 31-6.

The Wadena-Deer Creek girls finished third in the team scoring with 93 points while the WDC boys were eighth with 32. The Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale boys finished fifth with 59 points and the Raider girls were seventh with 19.
