Wadena-DC continues to roll in league play

The Wadena-Deer Creek American Legion baseball team opened the week with a pair of wins over Staples-Motley on June 27, before rolling to a 9-1 win over Walker on June 28. Wadena-DC continues its stellar play against league opponents. They are undefeated against district teams with matchups against Sebeka and Park Rapids to close out the season before league playoffs and district playoffs at the end of July.

Wadena-DC used a strong pitching performance from Jake Dykhoff in shutting down Staples Motley, 12-1, in game one.

Dykhoff went six innings, allowing just two hits and a single run in the win.  He helped himself at the plate as well with three hits including a double. Wyatt Hamann finished with two hits including a double and a sacrifice fly. Bryce Cooper added an extra base hit as well. Colby Schertler, Isaac Witthuhn, Noah Roers, Zac Schertler, Andrew McCullough and Preston Warren all had hits in the win as well.

Andrew McCullough shut down Staples-Motley in game two. He allowed just one run on four hits as Wadena-Deer Creek cruised to a 9-1 victory.

Zac Schertler, Jake Dykhoff and Bryce Cooper had two hits each. Dykhoff finished with two doubles in the game. Witthuhn, Hamann and Roers finished with a hit each in the win.

The only thing that slowed Wadena-DC down on June 28 was the weather. Wadena-DC traveled to Walker for a doubleheader, taking game one, 9-1, but the weather forced game two to be called with Wadena-DC leading 5-1 after two complete innings.

Justin Dykhoff led Wadena-DC on the mound in game one. He went the distance, allowing just two hits. He struck out seven batters, while giving up the lone run.

Wadena-DC belted out 15 hits in the win with Witthuhn, Zac Schertler, Justin Dykhoff, Colby Schertler and Preston Warren belting out a pair of hits. Jake Dykhoff finished with three hits in the win. Hamann and Noah Ross each had hits in the win as well.
