WDC boys win Browne Invitational honors

Konnor Stueve and Josh Daigneault captured individual firsts and joined Jonathan Pantages and Bereket Loer in winning two relay races Tuesday as the Wadena-Deer Creek boys took top honors in the Browne Invitational.

Stueve set the winning pace in the 100 dash with time of 11.15. Daigneault claimed first in the 400 dash with a 53.65. WDC's winning time in the 4x100 relay was 45.51. Their winning time of 1:33.92 in the 4x200 was the third-fastest in team history.

Pantages had two excellent individual finishes taking second in the high jump with a leap of six feet and third in the 100 dash with a time of 11.67. Loer took third in the 200 dash with a 24.57.

The WDC boys racked up 102.5 points. Otter Tail Central was a close second with 100.5. Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's team took third with 89.5.

Dacotah Mittag was also a top finisher for the Wolverines placing second in the shot put with a 41-9.

WDC's 4x800 relay team of Isaac Hale, Hunter Hawkins, Jerry Wang and Jayson Young finished third with their fastest time of the season, a 9:14.01.

Cade Kapphahn was fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.13.

Max Giza was a triple winner for Staples-Motley with a 13-6 in the pole vault, a 43.60 in the 300 hurdles and a 15.83 in the 110 hurdles.

Otter Tail Central's Eric VanErp and Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale's Samuel Moore were double winners. VanErp won the long jump with a 19-9.25 and claimed the triple jump with a 43-3.25. Moore dominated the weights with a winning toss of 180 feet in the discus and 50-9 throw in the shot put.

Ellie Miron, Mikaela Malone and Eve Collins captured firsts in leading the WDC girls to a third place finish. Park Rapids won the girls' meet with 138 points and Osakis took second with 111.

Miron was WDC's top scorer with a winning 104-9 in the discus, a runner-up finish of 28.13 in the 200 dash and a fourth place finish of 34-3 in the discus.

Malone ran a 13.28 for top honors in the 100 dash. Collins ran a 1:05.53 in the 400.

Kennedy Gravelle took third in the 1,600 with a 5:46.00 and placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 84-7.5. WDC's Liz Peterson tied her personal best in the pole vault with a third place jump of 8-6.

The Wolverines posted their best relay finish in the 4x200 with a time of 1:56.00. Joining Malone, Collins and Miron on the team was Starr Hanson.

The WDC teams notched 20 personal best performances in the meet.

Winning two events for Staples-Motley in the invitational was Millie Klefsaas. Her winning vault in the pole vault event was 11 feet and her winning time in the 100 hurdles was a 13.50.

The Wolverines are slated to compete Thursday at Pillager and Saturday at Perham.
