Wolverines gain first fastpitch win

The Wadena-Deer Creek fastpitch team picked up their first victory of the season Thursday in splitting a doubleheader at Menahga.

Hailey Wiederich went 2-for-3, scored three times and drove in three as the Wolverines bombed the Braves 17-4 in the first game. Courtny Warren went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Driving in two runs apiece for the Wolverines were Lila Lohmiller, Kayla Peters, Kyla Ness and Laura Krause.

Casey Volkmann tossed four scoreless innings to pick up WDC's first fastpitch win in seven outings.

Cierra. Ahlf doubled twice for the Braves and drove in one run.

The Braves gained the split in the nightcap by rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Wolverines 10-8.

Rachael Kicker, Alayne Lake and Alyssa Peterson combined for six hits, two runs and three RBIs.

Warren went 3-for-3 and scored three times. Lohmillner was 3-for-3, scored three runs and drove in one. Kyla Ness and Volkmann each drove in two runs.

The pitching loss went to Volkmann.

Taylor Miller's walkoff grand slam in the fifth inning capped a seven-run fifth inning as the the Trojans trounced the Wolverines.

Miller was 2-for-4 with six RBIs. Madison Lake scored three times, drove in a pair of runs and along with teammate Morgan Palmer, went 2-for-2 at the plate.

Casey Volkmann and Kyla Ness went 2-for-3 in the loss.

"We left runners stranded in scoring position every inning. We were hitting well, we just couldn't get the runs across," WDC head coach Tracy Jack said.

Sauk Centre 17, WDC 2

Kallie Kampsen spun a two-hitter Monday as the Mainstreeters crushed the Wolverines.

Kampsen walked two and fanned one in the five-inning game on the WDC field,

Casey Volkmann and Kyla Ness scored WDC's two runs. Ashley Lehmkuhl singled and drove in a run.

Kailyn Seidel paced the Mainstreeters at the plate going 3-for-4 with three runs. Shelby Otte doubled, walked twice and scored four times. Mikayla Olson went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Lehmkuhl was tagged with the loss.
