Speer hired as GM, publisher of Northland Outdoors
Veteran outdoors media executive Erik Speer has been hired to be the general manager and publisher for Northland Outdoors, according to Forum Communications Co., which owns the brand and is headquartered in Fargo.
Speer started on the job last week and comes to Northland Outdoors with more than 20 years of experience, most recently as production director for Outdoor Sportsman Group. There he was responsible for helping expand from two shows to what is now 15 television programs, including "In-Fisherman," "Bowhunter," "North American Whitetail" and "Guns & Ammo."
Speer previously served as chief photographer at WDAY located in Fargo, and as a videographer and editor for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources communications department.
His work has earned numerous national Telly awards and Outdoors and Sportsman Channel awards.
Speer grew up in Warroad on the shores of Lake of the Woods and currently lives in Brainerd with his wife, Sarah, and two daughters.
Northland Outdoors, which is headquartered in Brainerd, is an Upper Midwest leader in outdoors content for newspapers, magazines and online across North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin. The brand includes a quarterly magazine called Northland Outdoors, it's website which can be found at www.northlandoutdoors.com and its newest offering, Northland Outdoors Television, which debuted in early July on Fox Sports North, which airs in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and upper Iowa.
A family owned company, Forum Communications Co. owns newspapers, radio and TV stations, commercial printing plants and dozens of other publications in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
