Eagles rally to top Wolverines
Dan Kraft ran for one touchdown and passed for another in triggering a 20-point fourth quarter rally last Wednesday that lifted New York Mills over Wadena-Deer Creek 28-14.
Turnovers hurt both clubs in their regular season finale with the Wolverines guilty of three and the Eagles committing four.
The Wolverines took a 14-8 lead into the final quarter thanks to a pair of first half touchdown runs by Zach Schertler. The WDC sophomore, who logged 121 yards on 14 carries, hit paydirt on a 35-yard run in the first quarter and converted on 10-yard carry in the second quarter.
Zach Frost countered for Mills in the second quarter with a 26-yard scoring run.
The Eagles turned the tables in the fourth quarter on three long runs. Kraft went in from 28 yards out and then found Dominique Stafki open for another 28-yard score. A.J. Wegscheid sealed the win with a 43-yard gallop.
Nick Carlson returned to quarterbacking the Wolverines and racked up 161 yards on 23 carries. Carlson was five for 10 throwing the ball and hit Dylan Dumpprope with two passes for 23 yards.
Wyatt Weber had a huge defensive night for the Wolverines with six tackles and 10 assists. Sutton Lohmiller also made six solo stops and assisted on two more.
The Wolverines finished the regular season with a 1-7 mark. The Eagles ended the year at 4-4.
