Four Wadena MMA fighters triumph

Jerdan Stinar, Tony Huon, Mark Niemela and Hayden Buckner of the Wadena STOMP-MMA club chalked up victories May 15 on a 10-fight card at the Wadena Armory.

 Stinar led off the evening with a first-round victory over Shane Stuart of Iowa. The 175-pounder subdued his foe with a triangle choke.

 Huon notched a first round victory at 160 over Thief River Falls’ Brandon Busse. Huon won his fight at the 2:21 mark with an arm bar.

 Niemela won his 155-pound fight with Rochester’s Dale Walters by putting Walters in an arm bar at the 1:31 mark.

 Buckner found victory in a 155-pound fight by applying a rear naked choke at the 1:09 mark of the second round against Duluth’s Jesse Rogge.

 Wadena’s Luepa Garza, Joel Snyder, Fikret Saric and Jesse Wannemacher came out on the short end of their cage fights.

 Garza faced Thief River Falls’ Sebastian Groo in a 145-pound fight and lost at the 2:59 mark of the second round when Groo applied an ankle lock.

 Snyder’s fight with George Spears of Minneapolis was over at the 1:51 mark of the first round when Spears scored a knockout of the 170-pound Wadena fighter.

 Saric met Illinois cagefighter Zac Paletta in a 140-pound title fight. Paletta used a rear naked choke to score a first round victory at the 1:41 mark.

 Wannemacher squared off with Superior, Wis., featherweight Robert Tahtinen in the final match of the evening. Tahtinen was ruled the winner when he stopped Wannemacher with a rear naked choke at the 2:16 mark of the second round.

 In a 140-pound bout, Brainerd’s Kyle Matuszak beat Thief River Falls’ Casey Lucken with a   triangular choke at the 47 second mark of the second round.

 Michael Cox of Little Falls knocked out St. Cloud’s Alex Rueda at the 46 second mark of the first round in their 170-pound fight.
