A trio of white-tailed deer paused in front of a trail camera last Friday morning as they made their way along a path on a farm in Otter Tail County. Deer and other resident wildlife have made it through the winter in good shape according to conservation officers and wildlife managers.

In an effort to rebuild Minnesota's deer herd the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has set up a lottery system to regulate antlerless deer permits in 69 of the state's 128 permit areas for the firearms deer hunting season. A bucks-only season will be the rule in northeastern Minnesota. Wadena County hunters will be able to take one deer of either sex.

12-year-old Logan Wegscheid of Wadena takes aim at a swinging egg shell Sunday afternoon during the Forkhorn Field Day at Knob Hill. Nearly 40 boys and girls participated in the annual event, which was organized by the local chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. Each kid went home with a prize.
