Gun arguments fueled by discrepancies, illogic

I have read, in silence, my last article on the poor gun-loving population.

I am sick and tired of reading articles on how guns are not a problem. We hear or see of death from gunfire every day of our lives. It takes people being gunned down in a movie theater or a classroom of innocent babies being shot to death in their kindergarten classroom to make us even turn our heads! We have grown practically immune to it! I say that it is time to snap out of it and take a stand.

The stocking up on guns, ammo and the like, and the sympathy toward gun owners since the recent attention to gun control, is an absurdity. Oh, the poor hobby hunters who have to suffer from the tragedy. Really? It parallels hamsters on a running wheel, easily excitable, but seeing only a micro-focused goal. People need to stop, wake up and open their eyes.

Times change?

Did we learn nothing from the '60s? So many valuable lessons learned - the true essence of so many incredibly important movements - forgotten.

Times have changed. People no longer can claim a "need" or "right" to own guns because they have no need to hunt animals for food and survival, or to protect themselves from wildlife on the home front.

It is the 21st century. We cannot fight guns with guns. It's nothing but a paradoxical conundrum. Solve violence with more violence? Eventually there'll be nobody left with that philosophy.

What was the National Rifle Association's proposed solution to the problem? Having armed guards welcoming our children to school in the morning? Is that the world we want to live in?

One way only

The only way to ultimately begin solving the problem of mass death due to gunfire is to ban guns. Period. All of the gun advocates say, "What!? It's mental illness that's the problem!" What nonsense! Mental illness may be a problem, but an ill individual cannot take out half of a classroom of children in a matter of minutes without a gun.

Guns were created for one purpose, and one purpose only: to take life. To kill. What right does any human being have to take the life of another?

Does it take innocent children being shot to death in school to wake us up?

Mental illness will always be an issue. There is no ultimate solution to that problem. There never will be. Every person, no matter what degree of mental health issue, has free will. People can choose to get help or not to get help. People die of mental illness every day in this country.

No 'right'

As long as people have access and "rights" to guns, there is no way to protect our children or the hundreds and thousands of lives (ignored by the masses) that get taken every day due to gunfire, some self-inflicted. There is no way to improve our quality of life and make the world a better place until we take a stand for what is right.

We have no right to bear arms. Violence will always be. Mental illness, to varying degrees, will always be. But the ability to kill so easily, so quickly and so powerfully, will not be possible without guns.

If people would step back and look at the big picture here, maybe then they would understand the magnitude of the damage that stems from access to firearms, and access to firearms alone, regardless of any individual's mental health state. I don't want my children or grandchildren to live in a world full of violence.

Right step

Avid hunters and gun-lovers: Find another hobby. In this day and age, the possibilities are endless. Enough is enough.

Will the banning of guns put an end to tragedy and make the world a perfect place? Absolutely not. I wish I could say that it would. What it will be is a step in the right direction. What it will be is a stand. What it will be is common-sense prevention.

We have no right to go 10 miles over the speed limit. We have no right to smoke in a public place where others could be exposed and "harmed." We have no right to drink and drive. And we have no right to use drugs recreationally, but we do have the right to bear "arms?"

Think about it. Reflect upon it. There exists discrepancy that defies all logic.
