Your Letters: Remembering on Memorial Day
Memorial Day is for remembering those who fought and died to keep our country free.
People like my father, a Korean war vet who passed away in May 2002, and Walter Gronlund, who passed away in March this year.
Walter was a World War II vet who lost a lung (among other injuries) fighting in Germany. He was my employer for six of the 57 years he owned G&L Service. Shortly before he became ill in December, we were talking politics with Galen (a coworker). I wish I would have had a video camera to catch the genuine sincerity in Walter's statement when he looked at the floor, shook his head and quietly said: "I fought them guys 65 years ago, and now they're here."
For the sacrifice of my father, Walter and everyone like them, past and present, let us not forget what they fought for.
