During his career, he specialized in internal and external communications for Sperry and its successor, Unisys. Following 29 years of service in New York City, Blue Bell, PA and St. Paul, MN, he retired in 1989 as vice president of communications. Earlier, he held several public affairs and communications positions with the corporation, including director of computer user organizations, stockholder and employee communications, speechwriting and community relations. Mr. Robertson was recognized as one of the leading authorities on employee communications in multinational corporations.

Richard was born in Wadena, MN, and received BA and MA degrees in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Minnesota. After army service, he was press chief at Fort Carson, CO. and director of public information at the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs.

While attending Wadena High School, he played the cornet in a five piece German band that entertained at various local venues. During the summers of his college years, he played in a dance band and was an editor for the Wadena Pioneer Journal. In recent years, he has been a major donor to the Wadena Education Foundation. A theater in the new high school there is named after him.

From the beginning, all who knew "Dick" knew and loved him for his dry wit.

Mr. Robertson is survived by his wife, Hadley, to whom he was married for 55 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Wanda Venet of New York City.
