Joan Welch Conlin

Age 80 of Arden Hills passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 23, 2017. Joan was born in Wadena, MN on July 12, 1937, the daughter of Tom and Neva Welch. After graduating from Wadena High School in 1955, she moved to the Twin Cities and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. After graduation, she began her career at First Produce State Bank in Minneapolis where she met Bernard (Bernie) E. Conlin. Joan and Bernie were united in marriage on September 13, 1958. They had three children, Patrick, Mark and Lynn. In 1976 the family moved from Minneapolis to Champlin. Bernie and Joan then moved to Johanna Shores in Arden Hills in 2013. After raising the children, Joan worked as a paraprofessional in the Anoka-Hennepin School District from 1982-1999 and later volunteered for many years at Mercy Hospital's gift shop and coffee shop. Joan loved to bake, shop and spend time with friends. Family was a special part of her life. Residents at Johanna Shores will remember her lovely smile and contagious laugh which brought joy and sunshine to all around her. The family gives a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers for the loving care provided, which allowed her to stay at home. Jeannine, Maureen, Cheryl and Mary as well as the Allina Hospice staff, especially Tracy. Our family will be forever grateful for your amazing support. We also thank the staff and residents at Johanna Shores for the support shown by the entire community. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Neva Welch, brother Larry Welch and sister Loretta (Welch) Davis. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bernie Conlin; children Patrick (Jody) Conlin of Perham, MN; Mark Conlin of Union, MO and Lynn Conlin of Aurora, CO; brothers Jerry Welch, Gilbert, MN and John Welch (Nancie Naughton) of Frederic, WI; sisters Patricia Welch, Wadena, MN, Sharon (Bob) Asselin of St. Cloud, MN, Mary (Chuck) Wurzinger, Coon Rapids, MN; Sisters-in-law Marlys (Robert) Milburn, Lac du Flambeau, WI and Phyllis Conlin, St. Paul, MN; Mother-in-law, Marian Conlin, Sauk Centre, MN; Grandchildren Kyle (Jerica), Erika (DJ), Kally and Jack; Great Granddaughter Kyleigh and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Joan's life was held at 2:00 PM (gathering 1:30PM) on November 27 in the Fellowship Hall, Johanna Shores, 3200 Lake Johanna Blvd in Arden Hills. A reception followed.
