Raymond W. Goepferd, 95, died September 9, 2017, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. He was born on July 29, 1922, to Henry and Mabel (Holm) Goepferd at the family farm east of Bertha, MN, the third of three sons. He attended and graduated from Verndale Public School and went on to study at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN. Ray enlisted in the Army-Air Corp Ground Force in September 1942 until 1945. He served in Ft Worth, TX and Hawaii. Ray was married to Evelyn R. Gedde on May 19, 1948, and they made their home in Wadena, MN, where he started work with what was to become Northern Co-operatives. He continued to work for 46 years until his retirement as a manager of warehouse operations and developed and managed the Coop fertilizer plant. Ray enjoyed retirement by purchasing a small farm in Bullard Township and building a log home in the woods along the Leaf River north of Verndale and traveling to Arizona in the winter months. In 1995, they moved to West Leaf Lake for the summers and continued to travel to Arizona and Rockport, Texas for the winter months. Evelyn died on May 21, 2002, after a prolonged illness. Ray continued to live at West Leaf Lake and Rockport, TX for the next 13 years. Ray enjoyed traveling in their RV, woodworking and boating. He was also a very active member of Balsamlund and Messiah Lutheran Church. Ray loved spending time with his family. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn, of 54 years and daughter Ruth Ann. He is survived by his son Bill (Jane) Goepferd, daughter Betty (Gordon) Miller and son Dave (Deanna) Goepferd, grandchildren Lisa (Kelly) Swanson, Sara J. Goepferd, Dominic (Izzy) Miller, Melanie (Charles) Carlson, Stephanie (Brad) Danielson, and Neil (Andrea) Miller and 9 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Hannah, Alice, Evelyn, Isaac, Eloise, Raymond, Margo and Freya.
Funeral services will be at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning, MN on Thursday, September 14th at 11:30. Visitation Wednesday, September 13th from 4:00 - 7:00 and one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Belmont Funeral Home in Henning, MN.
