The memorial service for Arlene Stokes, of Hewitt was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12 at the Motley Free Methodist Church in Motley, MN, with Pastor Jim Johnson presiding.
Arlene passed away at the age of 88, on August 9, 2017 at Lakewood Hospital in Staples, MN.
Arlene Evelyn Barnes was born to Luther and Ruth (Lookabill) Barnes on August 8, 1929 in Randolph, NE.
She was united in marriage with Ronald "Swede" Stokes on October 29, 1949 at the Methodist Parsonage in Wadena. Arlene enjoyed cooking for her family, reading, sewing, and crocheting. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Her family was most important to her.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Ronald "Swede" Stokes; her parents Luther and Ruth Barnes; her brothers Gene, Luverne and Meryl; sisters Pearl and Mary; and an infant grandson. She is survived by daughter Karen (Gary) Brown of Buffalo; sons Ronald "Warren" (Paula) of Staples, Marvin (Kim) of Bertha, and Jon (Charlotte) of Baxter; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Myron Stokes of Nenana, AK; sister-in-law Alice (Paul) Hershman of Wyoming, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Inurnment was in Oak Valley Cemetery, near Hewitt, MN.
