Allen A. Nikkari

Funeral services were held for Allen Nikkari age 84, of Staples (formerly of Wadena), Minnesota on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Karvonen Funeral Home in Wadena, Minnesota, with Pastor David Bergh and Bruce Van Stelton officiating. The pallbearers were Tom Eckel, John Eckel, Tom Murch, Stan Weitemier, Mark Delaney and Jeff Eckel. The honorary pallbearers were all of Allen's grandchildren. Military Honors were provided by the Elmer Goche V.F.W. Post #3922 of Wadena, Minnesota and the Minnesota Army National Guard of Moorhead, Minnesota. Allen was laid to rest in Pioneer Cemetery, Wadena, Minnesota. Allen A. Nikkari was born August 13, 1932 in Blowers Township in Ottertail County to Albert and Esther (Stierna) Nikkari. He attended country school and graduated in 1950 from Sebeka High School. He was bilingual in English and Finnish. He was in the United States Army for 2 years from 1954-1956, serving in Germany. He returned to work on the family dairy farm with his father. On August 16, 1958, he married Darlene Alice Leske at Grace Lutheran Church in Sebeka. They had two children Barbara Lynn and Chadley Allen. Allen would live and work on the farm until June 2014 when both he and Darlene would go into assisted living. He was a very dedicated and driven farmer. He also enjoyed reading, collecting John Deere tractors and spending time with friends and family. He was especially dedicated to his wife of 58 years. Most important to him was his faith which he embraced in 1973. He and Darlene hosted a Sunday fellowship meeting in their home for 35 years.

Allen is survived by his wife Darlene, daughter Barbara (Todd) Uselman and son Chadley (Lavonne Ware) Nikkari, granddaughters Cassandra (Jeremy) Lentz, Michaela and Ashley Lehmkuhl, grandson Branden Nikkari, step grandsons Dale, Aaron and Justin Uselman.
