Mound Westonka's power play lifts them past Prairie Centre
Two power play goals provided the difference when Mound Westonka skated away with a 3-1 victory over Prairie Centre at the Sauk Centre Ice Arena in a non-conference girls hockey game on Nov. 29.
The Blue Devils took just four penalties in the game, but the Mound Westonka White Hawks made them pay, scoring two power play goals in the deciding second period.
Emily Schepers, Lauren Burris and Sydney Hules found the net for the White Hawks in their road victory. Schepers started the scoring with a power play goal in the second period, while Burris scored the eventual game-winner on the power play in the second period. Those goals were sandwiched around a goal from Prairie Centre’s Gabby Olson, which tied the game early in the period.
Hules added the insurance marker late in the third period, allowing Mound Westonka to pull away for the 3-1 win.
Burris finished with a goal and two assists, while Schepers and Hules each added a goal and an assist.
Taylor Smith was sharp, stopping 17 of the 18 shots she faced, earning the win in the nets for Mound Westonka. Prairie Centre’s Isabelle Hovel finished with 29 saves on 32 shots in the loss.
The Blue Devils fall to 2-2-0 on the season and return to the ice for a pair of weekend tilts. They travel to River Lakes on Friday, Dec. 1, before coming home on Saturday, Dec. 2 to host Willmar at 7 p.m. at the Sauk Centre Ice Arena.
