Blazers headed for Class C state tournament

The Bertha Blazers extended their winning streak to nine games Sunday and clinched a berth in the Class C state tournament by blanking Bluffton 7-0 in the Region 14C tournament.

The top two teams from Region 14C will advance to the state tournament.  Following Sunday’s action the teams still vying for a state berth included Bluffton, Perham and Carlos.  The Blazers, who are currently 19-5, are slated to host one of the three challengers at 8 p.m. Aug. 10.

 State tournament play is slated to begin Aug. 16 at sites in Maple Lake and Delano.  The Region 14C runner-up will open tournament by at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 in Maple Lake.  The Region 14C champ goes into action Aug. 23 at Maple Lake in a 5 p.m. game.  The Class C state championship game is slated for noon Sept. 2 in Maple Lake.

 Jordan Riewer spun a six-hitter as the Blazers stopped the Braves.

 Riewer did not allow a walk while fanning eight.

 Marcus, Patrick and Preston Riewer all collected two hits. Dakota Aeling and Marcus Riewer both drove in two runs.

 Jake Hendrickx, Kyle Dykhoff, Marc Sweere, Dustin Geiser, Kevin Tumberg and Nic Goeden collected solo hits for Bluffton

 The Blazers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth to trip the Angels in Saturday’s region game.

 Jordan Riewer and Austin Selvey combined for two hits and four RBIs.

 The comeback victory handed Patrick Riewer the pitching win. Riewer was credited with 16 strikeouts in a complete game effort.

 Mark Gulseth went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs in the loss.

Bertha 14, Staples 4 (7 innings)

 Michael Riewer homered and tripled, drove in three runs and scored three as the Blazers trounced the Lumberbats in seven frames on Friday.

 Dakota Aeling and Preston Riewer combined for four runs, three hits and two RBIs in the victory.

 Jeff Hamann fanned eight and walked for in gaining the mound win.

 Mike Voeltz went 2-for-2 batting eighth in the Staples order.

Bertha 11, Perham 0 (7 innings)

 Patrick and Jordan Riewer combined for a three-hit gem Thursday as the Blazers routed the Pirates in seven innings.

 Marcus and Patrick Riewer both homered in the victory and combined for three runs, two hits and four RBIS. Jared Hoemberg was Bertha’s hottest stick going 3-for-3. Hoemberg also scored three times and drove in a run. Preston Riewer doubled and drove in two runs. Aust Selvey was credited with two ribbies.

 Tyler Doll, Gavin Biegler and Chris Ruther singled for Perham.
