Wadena County to replace Human Services building roof

At the June 3 county board meeting, Wadena commissioners voted to accept a quote from Herzog Roofing of Detroit Lakes to replace the failing roof on the Human Services building, located at 124 1st St. SE in Wadena. The roof will be a fully adhered system, and includes new metal flashing. The cost will be $69,980, and the work will be completed by Labor Day, if all goes well.

Commissioners also agreed to have the Highway Department repair the parking lots at all the county buildings where there are holes or deteriorated surfaces.

Also at the June 3 meeting, commissioners voted to hold a sale of tax-forfeited properties on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the courthouse. About 110 properties will be included in the sale. Information on the properties will be available at the courthouse in a few weeks, at the office of the Auditor/Treasurer.

In other business, the board:

• Learned that the Highway Department has hired four seasonal workers.

• Approved the purchase of a new snow plow truck.

• Approved the purchase of new technology for the county board room.

• Approved Conditional Use Permits (CUPs) for Marlin and Karen Knutson to place a second dwelling on their property as a primary residence, and change the use of the existing dwelling to a guest cabin in Sec. 20 of Shell River Township; and for Amber McGrath in Sec. 21 of Wadena Township for a second dwelling on the property for use of a family member.
