Senior health clinic set for Feb. 19

A Senior Health Clinic sponsored by Wadena County Public Health will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Christian Alliance Church. Health screening including blood pressure, vision, hearing, medication review, foot care, immunizations, health information and referrals are provided. Bring your medications along. There is a $15.50 fee for foot care. Please bring your MN Health Plan card if you have one.

WCHS awarded $4,400 Legacy grant

The Wadena County Historical Society was one of several recipients of $4.2 million in Legacy grants from the Minnesota Historical Society. The WCHS received a grant for $4,400 which will be used to hire a qualified and experienced Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) engineer to evaluate the current system preparatory to better control of the Wadena County Historical Society museum environment.

Immunization clinics scheduled for February

The Wadena County Public Health Department will conduct monthly immunization clinics as follows for the month of Feb. on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Wadena County Public Health building.

Please bring your immunization record to the clinic to verify what immunizations are needed. All minors must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. The administration cost is $13.25 per immunization or Minnesota Health Care Programs will be accepted. Immunizations at above cost are available for ages 0 to 18. If your child has full insurance coverage, please get their immunizations at your medical clinic or physician office. This should not replace your regularly scheduled physician appointments.

UCare informational meeting set for Feb. 20

UCare will host an informational meetings about its UCare for Seniors health plan options on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the AmericInn in Wadena.

UCare for Seniors has more than 95,000 members across Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Jefferson Hearing Aid Center attends Hearing Innovation Expo

Jefferson Hearing Aid Center owners Brian and Patti Hillesland recently attended the Hearing Innnovation Expo in Las Vegas. Believed to be the largest event ever held in the history of the hearing care industry, the expo hosted more than 3,400 hearing care professionals from across the world and featured world-renowned courses and speakers, including keynote speeches from two former US Presidents.

"The Hearing Innovation Expo gave us the opportunity to gain insight from former presidents, business executives, authors and some of the hearing industry's most respected thought leaders," Brian Hillesland said.

The three-day expo offered more than 60 presentations and courses with topics ranging from research and hearing science to patient engagement best practices for entrepreneurial success. Keynote speakers included former President George W. Bush, former President Bill Clinton, former Fortune 20 business executive Carly Fiorina, authors Simon Sinek, Guy Kawasaki and Dan Ariely and business magnate Donald Trump.

Grazing workshop set for Feb. 11

The Crow Wing Basin Forage Council will host an educational meeting in Staples for Feb 11 at the Central Lakes College in Staples for a grazing management workshop featuring Ken Miller and Josh Dukart. Ken and Josh are ranchers in central North Dakota, and the focus of their presentation will be on grazing management, integrating livestock into cropland management, using cover crops, soil health, and economics. They are both very experienced and will provide ample information that is pertinent to area livestock operations.
