Tenant brandishes knife at landlord, taken into custody
On Monday, Nov. 25 in the early afternoon officers of the Wadena Police Department responded to an apartment located on the 200 block of 3rd Street Southwest in Wadena for a landlord tenant issue. After officers arrived they learned that the tenant, Doyle Lee Leitheiser, 38, had brandished a knife at his landlord.
Officers investigated and learned that the landlord had been trying to get in touch with Leitheiser regarding rent. On Monday when the landlord arrived at the apartment to speak with Leitheiser, that is when Leitheiser opened the door of the apartment and was seen holding a knife in his hand. Leitheiser then made a thrust motion at the landlord. The landlord was able to escape without injury.
Leitheiser was taken into custody and brought to the Wadena County Jail without incident. Leitheiser will appear in District Court on Wednesday and is being charged with felony assault (2nd degree) and a 5th degree assault, a gross misdemeanor due to prior convictions.
