Little Dresses for Africa project
Wadena-Deer Creek Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members are sewing sun dresses for African orphans halfway around the globe. Not only are they learning how to pay it forward, but the FCCLA members are gaining some sewing experience as well.
The Little Dresses for Africa project was selected by the Minnesota State FCCLA organization as a statewide service project. Wadena-Deer Creek FCCLA chapter has been working on the project for the past few months and has 50 dresses in various stages of completion. They recently received donated fabric for 10 to 15 more dresses. The fabric and pillowcases have been donated by WDC staff members and relatives of chapter members. All of the chapter members working on the project are seventh- through ninth-graders with limited sewing experience. FCCLA Advisor Cindi Koll adapted the pattern to make it more forgiving for those with beginning sewing skills.
