The class of 2024 got a glimpse of what life as a kindergartner will be like at Wadena-Deer Creek's Kindergarten Roundup on Monday evening at WDC Elementary. More than 100 future kindergartners and their families enjoyed a light meal, program, a chance to meet teachers and staff, and a tour of classrooms.

WDC Elementary Principal Louis Rutten told families how WDC's Kindergarten program stresses math, reading and socialization. He said in addition to their kindergartner teacher, students will get to know specialist teachers who will expose students to music, art, and physical education. Students will also get the opportunity to visit the library each week.

"It's an exciting time for your future kindergartner," Rutten said. "And we are here to give your child a quality education that will provide a lifetime of learning."

Rutten attributed the growth in Kindergarten enrollment over the last few years to Wadena-Deer Creek's early childhood and preschool education programs. "It's provided our 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds with a strong foundation for entering Kindergarten at WDC."
