Cindi Koll's Parent/Child Development class recently coordinated a holiday dance and luncheon for special needs students from Staples-Motley, Verndale and Wadena-Deer Creek at the Deer Creek Community Center.

Students began preparing for this event almost two months ago. It serves as a community service project for the class.

Koll said the purpose of the project is to teach students how to organize an event for a worthwhile cause.

"They learn what a special, caring community the special-needs students are and how much these kids enjoy and appreciate the event," said Koll. "The students also learn how gratitude is an attitude."
