Meet new Recreation Director Luke Sturm

Luke Sturm is the new recreation director for WDC Community Education.

As a health/physical education teacher at Wadena-Deer Creek High School, Luke Sturm understands how important staying active is for today's youth.

"As a youngster, we didn't have a summer rec organization like we do here," said Sturm, who is completing his first year at WDC High School. "I think this is a great opportunity for our kids during the summer to stay active, meet new friends and have lots of fun with the numerous activities that are offered."

Growing up and attending school in Farmington, Minn., Sturm attended Hamline University in St. Paul where he received a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. As a high school student and into his college years, Sturm worked at various sports camps and ran numerous youth sports tournaments.

Although the responsibility as recreation coordinator is new to Sturm, the duties are not new to him.

"I'm extremely grateful to add recreation coordinator to my responsibilities here at WDC," Sturm said. "We have a very caring and dedicated staff to make certain the kids have an excellent time in their chosen activities."
