WDC Homecoming 2009 is here

This year's Wadena-Deer Creek Homecoming Court was selected by their senior class this week. Coronation is at 8 p.m. Monday evening, Sept. 28 in Memorial Auditorium.

Homecoming activities begin Monday at Wadena-Deer Creek schools, starting with a coronation Monday night and culminating with a parade and football game Friday.

Monday night's coronation will be at Memorial Auditorium and gets underway at 8 p.m.

Friday night's football game is against the Staples-Motley Cardinals, which starts at 7 p.m. A homecoming parade will be at 2 p.m. through downtown Wadena with the theme "Shuffle the Cards." The parade will organize at 1 p.m. on Community Center Drive north of the high school. It will then proceed east on Aldrich Avenue until reaching Jefferson Street. After heading south on Jefferson, the route will head back west along Franklin Avenue. The Wadena Police Department and Wadena County Sheriff's Department will lead the way and close off the parade route.

Other sporting events during the week include a girls tennis meet against Perham at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and a junior high football game against Staples-Motley at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Thursday will see a junior high football game against Otter Tail Central at 4:30 p.m., a junior high volleyball game against LPGE at 4:30 p.m. and a swim meet in Staples against Park Rapids.

Another favorite event is the Burger Bash, which will be in the high school commons from 5-7 p.m. on Friday.

The schools are celebrating with dress up days.

At the high school, Monday is "Nerd Day," Tuesday is "Outside the Box Day," Wednesday is "Color Day" (seniors wear black, juniors wear blue, sophomores wear yellow, freshmen wear red, eighth-graders wear orange, seventh-graders wear brown, and the faculty wears plaid or flannel), Thursday is "Neon/Tie Dye Day" and Friday is "Spirit Day" at the high school.

At the elementary school, Monday is "Inside-Out Hat Day," Tuesday is "Minnesota Sports Day," Wednesday is "Funny Footwear Day," Thursday is "Color Day" and Friday is "Blue and Gold Day."
