Horse clinic connects kids with horses

Sarah Madsen explains the different halters and bridles.

Wadena-Deer Creek-Bluffton (WDCB) Community Education held a Horsemanship Clinic Aug. 6 at the R & J Horse Arena in Verndale, where youth experienced the joy of being around horses in a safe and fun environment.

The horse clinic is designed to teach kids the basics of horse care. Kids groomed the horses, cleaned the horse's hooves, fed them treats, learned how to put on a saddle and bridle - and the best part, getting on a horse and riding around the arena! Participants included: Addison and Alyssa Carr, Hailey, Kayla and Leah Kircher, Ally and Ashley Pavek, Ryann Schmidt and Allie Westrum.

When asked what they enjoyed most about the horse clinic, the kids answered: "Everything!"

Special thanks to Sarah Madsen and her daughter, Kaija, for teaching the clinic and partnering with WDCB Community Education.
